Fingertrail Playbook {What We're Reading}

This weeks book is perhaps a little young for Rosalie now she's one, but when I saw it in the library I had to pick it up because it looked a bit different to the usual touchy-feely books for babies. It's the Usborne Baby's very first touchy-feely Fingertrail Playbook.

From cover-to-cover there are cut-outs on every page and Rosalie (and mummy!) enjoys running her fingers along them, tracing the shapes and patterns. Up the stems her little fingers go to reach the felty dandelion clocks and the fluffy flowers.

This book doesn't have a story, it's more about exploring the scenes with your fingers and connecting with the vibrant illustrations, letting the fingertrails lead you through. There are a few words on each page, but these only serve to describe the sounds and movement.

There are a few flaps to lift, and the odd squishy part to press, but I don't really feel that these enhance the book much. For us, the fingertrails are what makes this book stand out from the crowd. Being able to trace the different shapes and follow the story by dragging your finger across the page.

My favourite is definitely the seahorse, such a wonderful shape to trace! It's strangely therapeutic!

I do like the glitter and sparkles too, as this makes the pages even more fun, both visually and to the touch as in many instances the glitter is raised.

Definitely a book for 0+ months, but Rosalie still enjoyed it at a little over one year old, just not as much as Elmer!
