There is a lovely section in Mary Berry's Baking Bible called 'Baking for Children', but really it could be called Baking with Children, since many of the recipes are really simple, perfect for getting little ones involved in the kitchen. Today we decided to make cornflake cakes, or Chocolate Crispies as Mary calls them.
Rosalie's attempt at helping with weighing the ingredients was to remove squares of chocolate from the scales for taste testing, and ditto with the cornflakes... Whilst the chocolate, butter and golden syrup were melting she put paper cases into the bun tin, and once it was all melted I let her stir in the cornflakes and spoon the mixture into the cases.
Last time, when me made Queen Cakes, I helped her quite a lot with spooning the cake batter into the cases, but today I just let her go for it and she actually did really well! She's quite a precise little girl and tried really hard to get the cornflakes into the cases, and if any didn't make it she would pick them up and put them in.
She was really pleased to be allowed to lick the spoon when we'd finished and has now learnt the phrase "licking spoon cook's perk!" Oh I love her so much!

Rosalie is definitely a star baker! The look of concentration on her little face is adorable. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Vickie :) She's definitely my star assistant! I know, she was so focused on getting those cornflakes into their cases!
